Reading Notes: Bible Women Part A (Leah)

This is probably one of the most ridiculous stories I have honestly ever heard. Two sisters are constantly fighting over who can have more kids so that their husband will love them more.

Things I would like to highlight in my own story is the competition between two sisters. I think it is very very common to have a great deal of competition between siblings, and I only have a brother. I would like to focus on the major sibling rivalry going on here.

I also want to focus on the aspect of "if I do this my husband will love me more." I think it is common in an unhappy relationship to feel like if you do x, they'll do y, and everything will be dandy. That is a very big aspect of the previous story.

I like the inner dialog that shows what the two sisters are thinking, that is another aspect I would like to carry over.

I think it is important for my story to focus on the absolute ridiculousness of this line of thinking, that more children is better and if you have sons your husband will love you and God likes you better.

For my story I think I might highlight the archaic beliefs that a woman's life purpose is to have children and thats the only value they have, but I think adding in the sibling rivalry aspect is also important.

I think what I would change is that they don't end up happy, they end up miserable and overwhelmed with 15 kids each, and regret just being baby makers and not valuing other life goals more.
